Facility development

A new study hall, four new dorms, and new toilets are being constructed with the help of Het Amsterdams Lyceum.

This year, the Maya Netherlands team collaborated with dutch high school 'Het Amsterdams Lyceum'. Once every five years, the Amsterdam-based school chooses an organization to do a schoolwide fundraiser for. Since eight Amsterdams Lyceum alumni are affiliated with Maya, this year's choice was an easy one. The fundraiser was wildly successful. Together with the support of the Wild Geese Foundation, they raised €90k to improve the Maya Home facilities.

The funds will be used to build a study area, four dormitories and four toilets, and to renovate the existing sleeping quarters. Not to increase the total number of Maya Home inhabitants, but to provide more privacy and security. With the planned construction and renovation, we want to realize a total of 22 bedrooms. Three of them will be allocated to staff, and the other 19 will be used as student dorms with room for four. Each room will be insulated and equipped with two bunk beds and four closets. The study area will provide an indoor space where students can study safely and store their school materials in private desks.

As you can see in the pictures below, the construction of the four new rooms has started. We expect that the students will be able to utilize the new facilities and renovations after the Nepali new year in April 2023.
