Greetings from Canada: A Message by Maya Alumni Bobby

Maya Alumni Bobby recently moved to Canada to pursue a Bachelor of Arts at the University of British Columbia. We asked her to reflect on her first four months there. And while it sounds like a big change, we are sure that it can only get better! Enjoy your time there Bobby!

Hello, I am Bobby, a grateful graduate of Maya Universe Academy. Currently, I am in Vancouver pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC). I am honored to be here, furthering my strong belief in education.

I joined Maya when I was seven years old with little or no knowledge of what education meant. Maya helped me put my faith in education and see what I can achieve as an educated individual. While I spent ten years at Maya, I found people who are closest to me, inspire me, and want the best for me, and I still meet more when I go back during holidays.

Maya is a place where we emphasize a variety of activities for students to pursue and find what they really love. I discovered my love for books and academics and my weakness in sports. However, I enjoy watching other Mayans who excel in sports and cheering for them.

I am at the end of my first semester here at UBC. It was cold when I first arrived here, and it’s getting colder, but the thought of snowflakes excites me. In the first month, the transition from Nepal to here was difficult, but I found support within my Mayan friends and community who were there to pick up my calls and check on my well-being. After spending about 4 months here, where I have met lovely people and explored the campus and neighborhood, I am much more at ease and connected.

Best wishes,
Bobby
