Joon a Maya enterprise, created by 3 inspired students

"We are neighbours, childhood friends and part of the first batch of Mayans. Doing something meaningful and inspirational was always our motivation".

I am Rejina. I am 18 years old currently studying law in  12th grade. I have had many ups and downs in my life but I always thought that I  could do something different that will motivate my sisters, brothers and friends to start something new on their own. Sometimes, while looking at the moon I asked myself : can I shine like the moon some day and be surrounded by so many stars? Today, not only do I want to shine like the moon, but I also want to be an example, a motivation and an inspiration to others.  And you know? Friends are always the best business partners . Karina studies and lives in Kathmandu and had similar thoughts. She always wondered what could be done to inspire others to have a bigger vision of their life. Susmita wants to become an educator  and she always worries about the younger generation. She wants to create an environment where young women  can dream big rather than getting married and give up on their education and professional life at an early age. The three of us always believed that we could do something encouraging for young women like us to seek a better future. As we come from a male dominated society the women get less freedom and opportunities as compared to men. Most of the women in Nepal are housewives and dependent on their husbands' earnings and decisions. This financial dependency has numerous negative consequences on the society.  Nepal has a very low number of women entrepreneurs.  Limited mobility, overburdened household responsibilities, higher rate of illiteracy, lack of business training, market knowledge and networking are some of the major challenges that women entrepreneurs face here.
We founded Joon, a Maya enterprise, with the motivation to bring changes.  We design our own unique Joon products. Joon means moon is our native language Nepali.  Joon gives us both hope and  a purpose to our life : we can be the full moon if we are willing from our hearts.   We want to empower women through our work. We want to end the cultural stereotypes against women.
As the three of us are young women starting our own small business, we want to motivate  young Nepali women entrepreneurs. We want to achieve gender equality through our work. Our mission is to empower women and support small businesses in Nepal.
