You, me and the boy

In Nepal all school are still closed due to Covid-19. We let our students tell their story. An poem by Bobby

By Bobby Rana Magar (grade 10)

I am in the river
Playing ball
A little boy comes
Smoking a cigarette
The ball flows with the river
The boy chases it all the way

A man catches it
The boy pleads to give
Tears running down his cheek
The ball is given
As me and an adult ask for it

I ask the boy, “Where do you live?”
Answers nowhere
Mother ran away
Visits father sometimes
Who has a second wife

I listen to the real story
Days pass on
Smile on the face tomorrow
What can I do?
I am a young girl
Who is vulnerable too

I ask him
If you are given the opportunity
To study and be someone
Who would you become?
“No one”

It’s the voice of truth
Who doesn’t have the privilege To dream
In the world of right and duty
It’s the voice of thousands
Who are vulnerable
It’s the voice of me and you

Seeking for change
Raising our voice
With dry lips
To be heard
I believe

The change is coming
As you, me and the boy
Are as ordinary as everyone
And
As special as everyone
